i cant believe its been that long since the last time ive checked updated this blog. My apologies to all my loyal fans.2006 came and went. Its been a much better year that i predicted in a previous post. No real new changes on the Jamaican political landscape, except of course the election of the first female Prime Minister in Jamaica, The Right Honourable Mrs. Errol Miller Portia Simpson Miller. She came onto the scene with such promise, assuring the Jamaican public that we would see a change…but unfortunatley her promises have fallen short thus far…new driver, same old bus. Lets see…what else happened…oh…right! Brazil decided it had enough world cup victories under it belt and being the good sports they are declined to play the finals…leaving Italy and France (of all countries) to battle it out. Despite the headbutting tactics of Zidane, Italy won it. Locally we have a new technical director for the national football program Bora Milutinovic http://www.worldcupblog.org/managerial-merry-go-round/bora-milutinovic-linked-to-jamaica-job.html Hopefully he can get us the finals. All in all Jamaica hasnt changed much for the better this year. The death rate in this small caribbean paradise is comparable to that of Iraq….except Iraq is in the middle of a war…whats out excuse. Thats all for now.

Dont stop the progress

I'm stuck in traffic on Marcus Garvey Blvd, entering Dowtown Kingston at 7:45am. I'm thinking i'm going to miss the start of the first World Cup game today (lucky for me the game starts at 9am since were almost into the round of 16). Traffic isn't unusual on this road at this time of the morning but this bummer to bummer pile-up is jus ridiculous. I'm thinking there has probably been an accident so i reach for my camera to capture some motorist in his/her moment of embarassment (im not that bad….the pics might help when it comes time to talking to his/her insurance company). To my suprise there was no wreck of metal, no bloody bodies no 10 feet high flames blazing from the container of an overturned tanker….there was only water….but not just any water, at least 1 foot of free flowing sewage water, a sight that you can only witness in two places on earth….the worlds largest sewage plant in Hanover, Germany, and if your lucky like i am today, on any major street in sunny Jamaica. Enjoy!

Brokeback backlash

peter kingOn monday, March 20 Trade Board chairman Peter King was found brutally murdered in  his home. Im gonna take a plunge and run one of my many conspiracy theories your way…the murder of the allegedly homosexual male was not the result of some lovers quarrel as is being suggested by those few jamaicams who care to make remarks on the topic other than “u mean fi tell me seh the bwoy dem did jus a sleep deh all nite….” http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news/html/20060320t200000-0500_101052_obs_peter_king_murdered.asp , I beleive kings murder was something of a reprisal for the blatant show of gay pride displayed when the local motion picture board decided to air the academy award winning movie “Brokeback Mountain”. Jamaica has always has strong moral views on the prevalance of homosexual material and acts and its not hard to beleive that Kings murder could have been a sign to the homosexual community that it still isnt safe to come from out of the closet. This is the second murder of an infulential homosexual (alleged or not) in about 5 yrs. The head of JFLAG was killed in a similar manner some years ago…..well ..we’ll see how this one turns out

Silentriver in now way shape or form condones violence towards homosexuals or any group of persons.

2005: year in review

2005 wont soon be forgotten, not by me anyway. the year had it ups and downs, downs mostly…one would think that leaving university would be a wonderful experience that opens new doors for young professionals; that attaining tertiary level education would put the student on a straight path to sucess. who would ever beleive that i would have to go through over 20 interviews and 20 rejection letters before finally getting ajob (fortunatley its one i enjoy)…the experience was eye-opening….its given me a better understanding of why the country is stuck in this cycle of crime and poverty…If I, a UWI graduate cant find work in good ole jamaica how can someone who hasnt attained a secondary level education sustain himself/herself? what choice is thier but to tuck a gun into your belt and “rob a bwoy”. Dont get it wrong..im not endorsing violence but really..weh di ppl dem fi do? Things look bleak for 2006…this raas pnp party election is doing nothing but sapping the countries resources…How the candidates find so much money for campaigning…i though the counrty was poor….unu memba when the PNP did promise seh we woulda be:pothole free” or when dem did seh the highway would finish?? ah well, just another year in good ole JA…
